Practice Pointer - Authentic Scripts

Many Chiropractic teams demonstrate a reluctance to use scripts routinely in practice. There is no doubt that they can work very well, but in some cases, the reluctance may only come from 1 or 2 team members. The most common reason for a practice or team member to not use scripts is that they sound “un-authentic” to them.

So how do you make scripts sound authentic and not like the kid at the fast food outlet asking “Would you like fries with that?” like they don’t care about the answer anyway?

Firstly, the worst thing you can do is to adopt somebody else’s scripts if they are not congruent with your mission or your values (assuming you have already discussed these as a team). In a team meeting, examine what facet of your practice is working least efficiently. Discuss what procedure you will all adopt and then come up with your own wording as a team to communicate that.

Secondly, practice, rehearse and role play that script until it rolls easily off the tongue, just like you did when you first developed your own signature. Well planned and rehearsed scripts can similarly be the defining signature of your practice when they sound authentic.Scripts can only be effective in any office when they are truly your own and they sound authentic.

Practice Pointer - What Are You Willing to Ask For?

In his book, “The Four Purposes of Life: Finding Meaning and Direction in a Changing World”, Dan Millman discusses the idea that developing self-worth is one of life’s core lessons.

He says that “Life provides certain opportunities and choices, yet we allow ourselves to receive, achieve, or enjoy such opportunities, only to the extent that we believe ourselves deserving or worthy of them.”

Our level of self-worth can easily dictate how well we develop rapport with a new client, how we go about providing recommendations at a report of findings, and ultimately how easily we are able to create the life and practice that we dream of.

So the question is, “What are you willing to ask for?”

Make it a part of your mission to continually improve your level of self-worth. Acknowledge your magnificence, acknowledge your accomplishments (no matter how seemingly small), and acknowledge the impact you are making on this planet.

Feature Article - The A.R.T. of RESPONSIBILITY by Berni Ireland

Dr Gilles Larmarche shared empowering insights on “The A.R.T. of Responsibility” at the Parker Seminar in Sydney Australia in 2011. I share here some of the insightful remarks from his presentation. Responsibility begins with how you wake up in the morning: YOU are responsible for your first thought. Do an honest check in with yourself -do you wake up excited about the day and believe that “Today I choose to show up as the best version of ME”. It is our response to waking up in another magnificent day and our ‘ability’ to respond that sets the scene for the rest of our lives, not only today! A powerful tool Dr Lamarche shared in his presentation is when you wake up, ask yourself “Who do I want to become today?” and don’t get up until you’ve made the decision to become that person. I like to add here Dr John Demartini’s ritual of when your feet touch the ground say “thank you” using your left and right feet - a word for each foot – thank you, thank you, thank you, left, right, left, right, left, right until you reach the bathroom, being grateful for everything in your life.

These steps set you on course for the day even before you say your affirmations or read the Parker Principles. “WHAT?” you ask ‘”read The Parker Principles EVERYDAY?” Yes, many of the Parker speakers (if not all) read Dr James Parker’s principles everyday creating a positive mindset and astronomical momentum in their lives. I have watched, listened and learned from these amazing men and women and they are walking, talking, living legends and advocates that, the Principles for Success Health and Happiness - The Parker Principals – work. With the positive influence of my mentors, I too have taken more responsibility for my life and I read the Parker Principals daily (well, almost daily, as humanness does creep in!). People behave based on how their leaders behave. You are a leader – people get excited about being around people who lead.

WHAT YOU FEED YOUR MIND MATTERS MOST.

Ask yourself: “DO I SHOW UP EVERY SINGLE DAY READY
TO BE MY BEST or to be mediocre?”

Taking responsibility means thinking bigger than the way you are behaving. Your Success, Health and Happiness (SHH) comes from consistently making wise choices. Many success experts have taught us that when we change how we think, our brain chemistry changes (Be - Do - Have). All that you are is a result of what you have thought.
Responsibility requires courage. Are you more responsible and accountable to someone you love than to yourself? If you don’t take care of yourself, how will you ever take care of anyone else?

Personal responsibility is the KEY to making changes in the world.

Past performance does not equal present potential. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall as long as you get back up. Your future is a blank canvas. Life is a canvas and you are the artist.

You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. Jim Rohn

How can we learn more about taking responsibility? We can applaud and support behaviours that we are looking to create. How easy is it to acknowledge the people in front of us and to acknowledge our clients, Chiropractic Assistants and colleagues? Start with self-acknowledgments, then spread this out, genuinely, to those around you. Strive to see the good in everyone. The easiest way to see the good in others is to see it in yourself. The absolute best thing you can do is to fall in love with yourself. (You may think this is going overboard, but it’s not. Honestly, how can anyone else be expected to love you if you first don’t take responsibility of loving yourself?). This is the way to move into the state of responsibility!

The price of GREATNESS is responsibility.
Winston Churchill

For changes to occur, you must change first. Nothing changes until you take full responsibility. Changes cannot be a ‘should’ or ‘hope to’. For change to occur, you MUST!! Are you doing what you could be doing to create the life you want? I repeat - for any change to occur YOU must first change. This is your decision. Dr Lamarche concluded his powerful presentation by stating “it is in the moment of decision that you shape your destiny”.

Next came Dr Lamarche’s challenge to the audience (and to all of us). It was a call to action from a book called “The Obvious” by James Dale, to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. Just say “I WILL DO IT.” These four words will separate you from the pack. Most people will not do it…The few who really do it, inevitably become the bosses of those who don’t.

Wayne Dyer teaches us:
Responsible People Are Inspired People
When you are inspired by some great purpose:
Your thoughts transcend their bonds
Your mind transcends limitations
Your consciousness expands in every direction
You find yourself in a new great world
Dormant forces, faculties and talents come alive
You discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed to be

Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.
Les Brown

Acceptance of what has happened is the first step in overcoming any misfortune. The moment you take responsibility for your life EVERYTHING will change!
Do you choose to take ‘response- ability’ and transform your values into actions and create what it is that you are setting forth to create? Do you choose to move the Chiropractic Profession ahead (or any profession you are passionate about)?

Ask yourself:
“Who could I choose to become if I took full responsibility for my life?”

Practice Pointer - Internet Optimisation

With so many people using the internet to find products and services these days, it makes sense to keep up with technology and invest a bit of time to ensure your potential customers find you first. Mobile phones have become a computer in a pocket and never before has information been so readily at hand.

Here are a few simple ideas put together by one of our clients, Dr Adrian Couzner from Sydney, on ways you can improve the chance that a potential client will find you first when they visit Google.

Website. It’s a must! Find someone who can set your website up with the right framework. The content needs to use words that people in turn will probably be using when they search for a Chiropractor in your area. This will help with your organic ranking on Google.

Create a Facebook page for your business. Post articles relating to Chiropractic, health and wellness. Get your clients to “like” you on Facebook. Post pictures of your dress-up days, Christmas party, Melbourne Cup lunch and clinic promotions. This will help improve the back links to your website. In turn, you need to find local businesses which are congruent with your practice philosophy and “like” them on their Facebook page.

Free Website Listings. Create a free listing on websites such as Startlocal, Truelocal, Hotfrog and Healthengine. Sometimes it’s just a matter of claiming your listing and then adding pictures and profile information about you and your clinic. The more listings you have with these free sites, the more likely you are to rank higher on Google.

Linked In. Create a Linked In profile page and create as many contacts as you can. Use Linked In to network with your clients and other health professionals.

Start Blogging! Find some Australian Blog sites and add comments to the ones that relate to health and Chiropractic.Creating online relationships with potential clients has become the new form of marketing, so get on board and have some fun exploring these new avenues.
